Thanks!

I figure with every fifty or a hundred pages like this, I improve maybe a level in head-drawing ability. Definatly better right now than the hundred pages I didn't bother to scan. :)

it's a good plan, I should do something like that myself, it would help with some of the problems I still struggle with

Yeah, one thing that's really, really helped me is not just starting staring at a blank paper, but getting references off stuff.

Like... for example, search devinart in scraps for 'heads' like this [link] and you'll get a ton of material for reference. Also search for 'comic' 'cartoon' 'reference' 'faces' and stuff like that.

Google too, [link] and you'll get stuff da doesnt - and in da, search under 'cartoon' and 'comic/manga' etc. I've got 207 reference pics like that over the past couple days and weeks, and I add more whenever I see something I might learn from, even if it's just one tiny thing in a huge page of junk, I save it.

Then what I do, basically, I put headphones on (the cover-the-whole-ear kind that helps block distracting noise), get some tea or coffee (beer), and just... start.

Oh, and also - if you're not doing something you're intending to sell or keep forever and ever - don't bother with those expensive 'high quality artists sketchbook' things - you can buy 500 pages of printer paper that is already 3-hole punched, stick that in a 3-ring binder, and have a functionally infinite supply of paper for under $10.

It scans just the same, and I dunno, I'm not keeping any of this sketchy stuff forever - and it's a heck of a lot easier to draw when you're not worried about 'wasting' fancy paper.

heh, thanks, that is a lot fo good info. I will have to take that under advisement and put into practice.
