This funky looking model brought to you by a technique called modelling. Essentially, drawing using pressure, ignoring such things as light-sources. The parts of the model closest to you receive the lightest pressure - the further away the part of the model is, the more firmly the mark-making tool is pressed into the page. This piece is rather ugly looking, I only really caught onto the technique at the right shoulder, but you'll see it a lot more in still-life compositions in a little while.
